VOICES OF THE TRADES: A NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO CLOSE THE SKILLS GAP

Steel Toe Communications is proud to present @‌Chat_CTE, our innovative workforce-development social media campaign designed to shine a light on skilled trades careers and inspire the next generation of construction professionals.

Born in June 2024 and rooted in the DMV community, @‌Chat_CTE brings students—especially youth, veterans, women, and minority groups—onto real construction sites to meet and interview tradespeople from across the industry. Shot as engaging short-form videos, these conversations are shared on TikTok and Instagram, combining storytelling with on‑the‑ground insight to highlight the exciting variety of roles available—from commercial and residential trades to behind‑the‑scenes support.

Supported by partnerships with Harbor Freight Leadership Lab, Montgomery County Schools, MCCEI, and SkillsUSA, the program, @‌Chat_CTE has already reached more than 1.5 million views in its first year. Local contractors have noted its fresh approach to showcasing real work and real opportunity—proving that social media can be a powerful engine for workforce growth.
